Crowns and Bridges Mackay QLD
Are your teeth cracked or damaged? Dental crowns may be the solution for you
At Smiles 4 Everyone Mackay we offer our patients a wide range of restorative dentistry treatments such as:
- Dental crowns
- Dental bridges
- Dental implants
Dental crowns and bridges are used to strengthen and restore the functionality and appearance of a tooth. Dental crowns and bridges can treat:
- Grinding: dental crowns and bridges are beneficial for patients who have worn teeth or have an improper bite.
- Poor oral hygiene: for patients who have neglected their teeth, dental crowns and bridges provide a way for Smiles 4 Everyone to restore your smile.
- Cracked, decayed or damaged teeth: for patients who have cracks in their teeth or have damaged teeth, your smile can be restored without the use of a dental implant or dentures.
A dental crown is an effective treatment for a damaged, cracked or weakened tooth. Generally made of porcelain—although it does depend on which tooth is being restored—dental crowns take two appointments to be placed.
The first appointment is where a mould of your teeth is taken. Once this mould is taken your tooth will be prepared for the dental crown. The mould will be sent to a lab where your more permanent crown will be fabricated, and this can take around a week to get back to Smiles 4 Everyone. A temporary crown will be fashioned and bonded to your tooth to keep it safe while we wait for the more permanent restoration.
The second appointment is when the temporary is taken off and the permanent restoration placed. Once you and your Smiles 4 Everyone dentist are happy with the look and feel of the dental crown it will be secured in place with special dental cement.
Dental crowns are shape and colour matched to your tooth to ensure there is no visible difference or interruption to your smile.
The treatment process for dental bridges is similar to dental crowns. A dental bridge is a solid crown attached to one or two dental crowns. This treatment requires two appointments and both teeth on either side of the gap to be prepared for crowns.
Restorations and your oral health
When you have had restorative dental work, or for that matter any dental work, it is more important you attend your regular check-ups. This is so our friendly team can assess not only your oral heath but also the health of your restoration. As a rule of thumb dental crowns and bridges, if looked after properly, will last ten to fifteen years. However you should keep in mind dental restorations are just as susceptible to oral health problems like gum disease as your natural teeth.
