I have knocked out an adult tooth. What do I do?
If you have knocked out a permanent adult tooth, it can be saved however immediate action is required.
- Stay calm and find the missing tooth
- Only handle the tooth by the crown which is the top part of the tooth.
- Do not try to remove any tissue fragments from the tooth.
- If the tooth is dirty, rinse it in milk.
- Replant the tooth in its socket and hold it in place. If this is not possible, immerse it in milk, seal it with plastic wrap or place it in the patient’s mouth next to the cheek. The main concern is to not let the tooth dry out.
Immediately call Maven Dental Mackay City to book your urgent dental appointment.
What do I do if I have chipped, fractured or cracked my tooth?
If you have accidentally chipped or fractured your tooth, the most important thing to do is to seek our dental advice. If it is a small chip or fracture, please call us within 24 hours. If you see any signs of the pink of the tooth, this indicates a nerve has been exposed. If this is the case, please call us immediately.
What do do if I have accidentally bitten my lip or cheek?
This can sometimes occur during eating, after a fall or as a result of local anaesthetic. Treat your bitten lip or check with a warm, salt mouth rise. Seek our advice only if infection occurs.
I have a terrible pain in one of my teeth. What can I do?
This is generally due to dental abscesses which are essentially infections inside a tooth or infection of the gym. It can cause facial swelling or enlarged lymph glands. We recommend you use a cold compress to control any swelling. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics however you will need to book an appointment with our helpful team as abscesses do not heal themselves and antibiotics will not fix the problem.
I am experiencing pain in my jaw. What do I do?
If you experience jaw pain whilst eating or opening your mouth, it is important to call our practice. At your appointment, our helpful team will work to diagnose the source of your jaw pain. In the interim, you can apply a cold compress or take anti-inflammatory medication.
